“THE TREES AND THE FOREST”
up close and distant views of Lake O’Hara in the winter
New Landscape paintings further explore my favourite Rocky Mountain area to paint, with a first-time visit in the winter!
I was at Lake O’Hara for a few days last February – far too cold to paint outside, but beautiful clear weather for taking photographs.
These oil on canvas, studio paintings are from that trip. In this series, I wanted to focus on the BIG picture as well as details in winter.
Touring with a guide, I was able to ski to Odaray for a first-time view of O’Hara from that vantage point. Later in the day at lake level, the changing light was fantastic.
As a further exploration in studio landscape painting, I have been experimenting with hard and soft edges to play with focus and depth of field on
details and distance - all in an effort to better convey the beauty of Yoho National Park.
